Project Management
The West Midlands Business Council is concentrating on two major projects which could significantly impact upon the competitiveness of businesses in the West Midlands region.
Exports
WMBC, with one of its member organisations – the Confederation of West Midlands Chambers of Commerce – and the Midlands World Trade Forum, are devising a long term project whereby international trade advisers will approach companies who do not export – but have the potential – to advise about exporting opportunities and, if needed, to support those companies with their export work. WMBC also is working to increase the capacity of existing exporting companies by 20%.
With the invaluable support of UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) the ideal commercial opportunities for regional business sectors in Europe are also being identified.
The Steering Group, chaired by the Midlands World Trade Forum Chairman, Peter Matthews, includes representatives from the Confederation of West Midlands Chambers of Commerce, the Institute of Directors and the Engineering Employers' Federation – all WMBC member organisations – alongside representatives from UKTI, the Government Office for the West Midlands and the West Midlands in Europe office. The interests of Advantage West Midlands are represented by UKTI.
Professionals Exchange
WMBC is committed to facilitating a programme whereby professionals in the West Midlands region participate in an exchange programme with professionals in other European regions – thereby developing business opportunities for West Midlands professional services companies.
WMBC with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Institute of Directors, the Association of Colleges and the West Midlands Higher Education Association – all WMBC member organisations – are working with Advantage West Midlands to ensure this objective becomes a reality.
